Islam Does Not Accept Domestic Abuse

To those who tell you to be silent and have ‘patience’ about abuse, know that the Prophet (pbuh) said:”Help your brother if he is an oppressor or oppressed.” A man said, “Messenger of Allah, I can help him if he is oppressed but tell me how I can help him if he is the oppressor?” He said, “Prevent him from oppressing. That is helping him.” [Sahih Bukhari]

  • MashaAllah and PREACH.

How often we find a fellow Muslim being oppressed or taking oppression in the form of emotional, physical, or other abuse, and say nothing- or have been counseled that saying nothing is the correct way of ‘sabr’. Allah knows best, thank you for the reminder from the Sunnah of our beloved Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

  • This hadith is so beautiful. I first saw it on your fb page and quoted it in a blog post I wrote about abusive relationships. This is such an important message and it has to be spread!

I Love your writing, mashaAllah you truly have the ability to capture the core message of the deen and communicate it in such eloquency to others. JazakAllah Khair!
    Blessings!

  • I wonder why does terrible things happen to supposed non-Muslims in Muslim countries, for instance Egypt. If one follows the news you know what I refer to. Why does abuse by Muslims to others happen just because one is defenseless?
I know from study that Islam is submission to God and that Mohammed (PBUH) gave the revelation from God that this is a peaceful Deen. I truly want a honest answer.
